Water Saving Flushwise Toilets

British bathroom manufacturer Twyford has been awarded the coveted Waterwise Marque for a range of toilets sold under the umbrella branding of FLUSHWISE. This is a new dual flush cistern mechanism that operates on an incredibly low 4 or 2.6 litres of water.The Waterwise Marque is the first scheme in the UK to highlight water saving products. It is awarded each year to products which reduce water usage or increase public awareness of water saving. Only 15 Marques were awarded in 2009.With a strong commitment to improving the environment we live in, Twyford Bathrooms does not accept that 6 or 6 and 4 litres of water per flush, as per current legislation is an acceptable minimum. The new FLUSHWISE toilets make a large step forward by flushing with only 4 or 2.6 litres of water this is 30% less water than the current UK regulations allow.Toilets are one of the top users of water in the UK households. There are 45 million domestic toilets in the UK and they use an estimated 2 billion litres of water per day. Bathrooms obviously do not get changed very often due to the work involved; this means there are approximately 40 million older style toilets in UK homes that operate on between 13 and 7.5 litres per flush.

Managing Director of Twyford Bathrooms Mike Conlon, is quoted as saying: With climate change and global warming, the fact is that the UK now receives much less rain that it once did. With increases in population and urbanisation, this puts extreme pressure on our finite water supply. We are excited that organisations are recognising the necessity to provide consumers with water efficient products, but still believe that consumers must be educated and encouraged to update their toilets.If we are effectively going to drive down Toilet flushing volumes in UK we need a plan that will remove any objections from the consumer, the plumber or the retailer.
