Bathroom Help
Large Bathrooms
Having more room to spread out when it comes to your bathroom designs offers you the perfect opportunity to create a space that is truly personal to you and your family. However, you cant allow yourself to fall into the trap of thinking that the perfect larger bathroom can be achieved with minimal pressure.
You need to make sure that you plan your bathroom carefully, to make sure that it still remains functional and efficient, even if you are aiming for the heights of luxury. For instance, you will not want to have to walk across the room from your bath or shower to get a towel! Although the temptation might be to spread your fixtures out around the room, you might find it easier and more cost-effective to group them together (in particular, leaving the toilet soil stack where it is will make life much easier). Grouping your fixtures in such a way also provides the added advantage of creating extra space for storage or fitted cabinets, or providing more room for relaxation.
Having so much space can be a problem when it comes trying to plan an effective layout, and as such you might want to consider creating a focal point within your bathroom. A large bath placed centrally would work perfectly in creating a feeling of luxury within the room. Indeed, if you have a large enough space, you might want to look at getting a more extravagant bath, so that you can truly indulge when it comes to relaxing at the end of the day. You may wish to look at a freestanding bath, or a hydrotherapy or whirlpool bath, which will provide the perfect focal point as well as extra comfort.
While you wont't necessarily need to think about creating more space through the use of lighting and colour, it will still have a part to play in your bathroom design. You will need to avoid a larger room seeming to clinical or impersonal and it is here where the tones you use will have an important part to play. Darker colours will allow you to create a degree of intimacy within your bathroom. You will need to ensure that you plan your lighting around the natural lighting within the bathroom, so that the whole room can be illuminated. Perhaps you might want to mix up the types of lighting that you use within the room, so that you can highlight certain areas or features within the bathroom.
Having more space to use to your advantage means that you dont necessarily have to be constrained by the use of fitted cabinets and other such furniture. Freestanding cabinets or cuboards will offer you the chance to experiment with your layout. You might even look to using a moveable storage unit, which allows you to enjoy convenience without unwanted clutter.
Finally, having a larger bathroom allows you to explore other uses for you and your family. You might want to think about placing a dressing table and mirror or relaxation/equipment within the room, in order to fully individualise your bathroom space.
