Small Bathrooms

Small Bathroom Suite

Having a smaller bathroom means that you may need to think more carefully about how you approach design and decoration. However, there are still many different ways that you can look to exploit the space that you have available, and you should not let the size of the room become too much of a limiting factor.

Your use of light in a smaller bathroom will be integral when it comes to the final design. The amount of natural light that you can use to your advantage is likely to be limited, and so you will need to think carefully about the lighting methods that you use. Using too many dark colours and tones will make a small bathroom feel even smaller, so try to opt for lighter colours in order to increase the feeling of space. Using spotlights will help brighten your whole room without adding too much clutter, while adding mirrors will help increase the feeling of space by reflecting any natural light.

In any small bathroom the main aim is to try to reduce any unnecessary clutter, and to this end there are many ideas and techniques that you can use to your advantage. For instance, the use of wall fittings will allow you to use your space more efficiently, while at the same time providing your bathroom with a more contemporary feel. There are many compact bathroom suites now available that are specially designed to suit smaller bathrooms, which hide any pipework whilst also providing sleek and clean lines that will suit the room perfectly. Although you may be tempted by more ornate fixtures and fittings, you must bear in mind that they will create a feeling of untidiness (as well as attracting dust!) and disorder in small places.

Advances are constantly being made when it comes to sanitaryware, which means that there are plenty of choices available for use in smaller places. For Instance, you may decide to opt for a corner fitting basin or toilet, which will allow you to exploit the space within your bathroom fully. A shower enclosure will take up much less space than a bath tub, and there are a number of options available in this respect, ranging from corner or pentangle cubicles that will fit in smaller areas, through to bi-fold or in-slide doors that will allow easy access in restricted places.

You could also save space by combining your bath with your shower, there are many different bath/showers mixers available that would help do this, you could also look into placing a shower unit over your existing bath tub. A P-shaped bath or space saving bath (with tapered sides for more floor space) could be taken advantage of to finish off the perfect smaller bathroom.
