Replacing the sealant around your bath is also ideal for freshening up the look of your bathroom without having to spend too much money, and ensures that any mould is banished too.

You don’t need to hire a professional to carry out this work either, replacing the sealant can easily be done by yourself. Read this handy guide to find out how.

To replace the sealant around your bath you will require sealant, cartridge gun and sealant remover.

Sealing around your bath

1. Remove the old sealant

The first step that you need to carry out is to apply the sealant softener or remover and simply leave to dry for about 10-15 minutes. Once this duration has passed take a plastic scraper and ensuring that you don’t scratch or mark your bath gently remove the sealant from around the bath and then scrub with a bathroom cleaner or warm soapy water and dry off.

2. Applying the new sealant

Before applying the new sealant make sure you fill your bath with water, this is to help prevent the new sealant from cracking when you take a bath.

Install the sealant cartridge into the gun and snip the end of the nozzle off ensuring that it is the same size as the gap that you are going to fill with the sealant.

Sitting on the edge of your bath simply press the trigger on the cartridge gun and fill the gap with the new sealant. Once you have completed this use a rounded edge tool to smooth the sealant making sure it is at an angle, which helps to shed the water better.

3. Leave to dry

Before you enjoy a relaxing soak in your bath make sure that the new sealant has totally dried out out. If there is any excess sealant it can easily be removed with white spirit.Next Article
