How To Create The Perfect Country-Style Bathroom

Shhh!!!

Don’t tell anyone, but I’m not the biggest fan of all the modern fixtures, fittings and minimalism appearing in contemporary bathrooms.

Bare walls and angular designs don’t quite cut my proverbial mustard, and some of the more stark and clinical bathrooms I see on “the gram” leave me feeling a little cold – and nobody likes a cold bathroom, surely!

Ok, maybe some of you do, but for the next few minutes I’m going to pretend you aren’t even there!

You see, for me at least, the rustic charms and cosy colours that help to create a calm and country-style bathroom are where the real luxury is at.

So, although I’m far from a country boy, I thought I’d look at how you can create the ultimate country bathroom; whether you live in a cosy cottage, first floor flat or a two up and two down.

Wherever you are. However big or small the home. This Big Bathroom Shop guide to creating the perfect country-style bathroom should help you to bring in the country vibes.

A Big And Bold Bath

First thing’s first (obviously), a country-style bathroom isn’t worth your time and effort without including a beautiful, statement-making freestanding bath.

A truly striking focal point, the freestanding bath dates back around 200 years or so to Holland, where Dutch bathers were inspired by Chinese legends and bathtubs featured dragon motifs in their claw-foot designs.

If you have the room, a freestanding bath makes for an outstanding showpiece in a country bathroom that will bring a real sense of luxury to the space.

TOP TIP – No space for a freestanding bath? To give your bathroom a natural country vibe, why not try replacing the panels on your existing bath with treated wood?

The Complete Country Suite

Co-ordinate your toilet and basin and opt for a more traditional style to add a touch of Victorian glam to your country bathroom.

Here at Big Bathroom Shop, we have several styles to choose from to help you complete the look.

Achieve that stunning country vibe with a matching basin, toilet and (maybe) a bidet combination – we’ll let you off if you opt for the more modern flushplate like in the picture below.

TOP TIP – Because it doesn’t sit on the floor, a wall-mounted toilet is far easier to clean than a floor-standing design.

Natural Coloured Furniture Tones

If you’re short on storage space, there is a selection of fabulously generous country-style furniture ranges here at Big Bathroom Shop.

For a truly authentic country vibe, opt for more neutral colour tones such as light and golden oaks, antique whites, and light greys.

If you don’t want to fully update your bathroom with new furniture, the simple addition of a wooden toilet seat and a wooden framed mirror help to introduce a country feel with minimal effort.

With Taps, Think Traditional

Whether it is a freestanding tap to accompany your traditional freestanding bathtub or wall-mounted taps for your traditional basin, we have a selection of taps that are the perfect complementary addition to your country bathroom.

The beauty of our traditional brassware collection does not stop at the design styles either; select from a range of colour palettes to complement your own style and taste.

With finishes ranging from classic chrome, to oil-rubbed bronze and brushed gold, there are vintage look taps that will enhance your country bathroom look effortlessly.

TOP TIP – When selecting a tap for your freestanding bath, consider matching your waste pipe and accessories to achieve a truly co-ordinated finish to your country bathroom space.

You’re Probably Going To Need Wood

Any self-respecting country bathroom owner is going to need to introduce a little (or maybe even a lot of) wood to their country bathroom space.

Wood adds texture and helps to further enhance a rustic, scandi-style country vibe.

Though you will find that a lot of solid wood flooring isn’t recommended for bathroom use – because it can swell and fade over time – there are alternatives like teak and bamboo that work really well too.

Opting for wooden duckboards instead of bathmats and using wicker storage baskets and drawers can help to complement the country theme even further.

Or, if you want to be really adventurous, clad the entire bathroom with tongue & groove wood panels – somewhere between Swedish sauna and OTT rustic!

Accessorise, Accessorise, Accessorise

And finally, as we were just talking about them, we come to the often-overlooked bathroom necessity – the accessories!

From wooden mirrors and durable adjustable bath racks to robe hooks and toilet roll holders, the finer details of a country bathroom should not be ignored.

It’s the little things that often give your bathroom space the character you desire, so be sure to add those finishing touches to further enhance that country theme.
